Notes:
* acutely aware of my presence, this wood mouse stood completely still
* if a speedy getaway was needed, this rodent could leap a staggering one metre (ten times its length)
* with a lifespan lasting only a summer or two, they live in underground burrows that are passed down through generations
* a day spent helping out tcv (the conservation volunteers); happily split logs, disrespectfully mattocked laurel roots, and fruitlessly chased stag beetles. made all the more fun hanging out with a chatty bunch
